PPACG offers free counseling assistance for people on Medicare, starting Oct. 15 Oct. 6, 2018Help with planning for Medicare is available through the Senior Insurance Assistance State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) office. People with questions can drop by the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments (PPACG) office at 14 S. Chestnut St. (SHIP counselors are available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or call SHIP's statewide toll-free number: 888-696-7213. “SHIP counseling is free and SHIP counselors do not sell or endorse any insurance, so they can provide an objective view of the options,” a press release states. “All are trained and certified by the state and by Medicare and have many years of experience.” Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older and those who are eligible for Social Security based on a disability. Medicare Open Enrollment is an opportunity to sign up for 2018 Medicare Part D (prescription drug plans) and Medicare Advantage Plans. That opportunity begins Oct. 15 and will continue through Dec. 7.
