Monthly First Friday shuttle (starting July 7) boosts Old Colorado City ArtWalk
Starting July 7 and continuing on first Fridays through October, the free bus is scheduled to take a one-hour loop through the central part of Colorado Springs, making seven stops in all. Other locales are hotels, places in the downtown area and the Fine Arts Center. The OCC First Friday ArtWalk is in its 12th year. The time frame is 5 to 8 p.m. There is no charge. Locations are usually marked with event flags. People can visit as many locations as they like in a free, self-guided way. Most offer refreshments, live entertainment and/or art demonstrations. Providing additional OCC ArtWalk support, COPPeR lists on its website (and provides links to) all the participating shops/galleries as well as to their artists/offerings at the July 7 event. The website is peakradar.com/shuttle-schedule. An ArtWalk shuttle was previously made available (through a different funding source) in part of 2007, although that service only ran between the downtown and Old Colorado City. This year's OCC ArtWalk started in April with 14 participants and is now up to 16. The latest additions are the Simpich Gallery, 2413 W. Colorado Ave., and Simple Body Products, 2616 W. Colorado Ave. #5. The participating businesses this year are all within the historic shopping district, along Colorado Avenue from 24th to 27th Street. They are as follows (street number in parentheses): 45 Degree Gallery (2528-B), Arati Artists Gallery (2425), By Design Gems (2520˝), Chavez Gallery (2616), Creative Co-Op (2513˝), Cucuru Gallery Café (2332), Febra's (2532), Hunter-Wolff Gallery (2510), Laura Reilly Fine Arts Gallery (2522), the LOFT Creative Space (2616), Running Wolf Gallery (2514), Squash Blossom (2531), Thunder Mountain Trading Company (2508-A) and Who Gives a Scrap (2518).
