Green-shirted volunteer 'Ambassadors' in Old Colorado City till Aug. 11 June 11, 2018In cooperation with the City Police and Fire departments, business people are offering the annual summer Ambassadors service in Old Colorado City and the downtown. The outreach effort starts Friday, June 15 and will continue Fridays to Sundays (from noon to 6 p.m. in Old Colorado City) through Aug. 11. The program consists of volunteers in bright green shirts on the sidewalks randomly greeting people and handing out informational material. The volunteers are trained through the City Police CAPS (Community Advancing Public Safety) program to help visitors and watch out for criminal activity, according to police information. In Old Colorado City, the CAPS volunteers are working in conjunction with the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) business group. The OCCA's Welcome Center at 2324 W. Colorado Ave. is the gathering point.
