Local children's book writers to meet public June 14 at History Center

The Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS) will host a five-hour event Saturday, June 14 to provide exposure to several children's book writers from the area.
Free and open to the public, the “Children's Reading Day with Colorado Children's Authors” will be at the OCCHS' Old Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th St., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors are welcome to come and go as they like, to ask questions of the writers and browse through their reading materials on display. Any books purchased will be signed by their authors.
“The Children's Reading Day is one where children can learn to love reading by interacting with the authors, participating in the story and seeing books come alive,” an OCCHS press release states.
The writers (or writing contingents) are:
       - Vanessa Kilik (“My Snow Globe Book”).
       - Joan Musick (the “Reverse Book” series).
       - Sally Burr and Gail Ross (the “Black Forest Friends” series).
       - Kenyon, Therese, Travers and Rioux Jordan ("Quest for Bunny Island" novel).
There will be tables for each writer/writing contingent, with scheduled opportunities for each to read from their books. The story topics include adventure, animal behavior, virtue, silliness, and even two books in one. The Jordans will bring a live rabbit, which could be imagined as an animal character in their story.
For more information, call the OCCHS at 636-1225.
