History Center: presentation, Holiday Bazaar

Old Colorado City Historical Society volunteer Leo Knudson portrayed George Blunt, founder of the Westside's Blunt Mortuary, for the society's annual Haunted Histories Sept. 15 in Fairview Cemetery. He's standing by the Blunt family headstone, which has three individual Blunt grave markers in front and three in back.

The Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS) has events scheduled Friday, Nov. 9 (a presentation) and Sunday, Dec. 2 (a new holiday-themed event).
Both will be at the society's Old Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th St.
Nov. 9 at 11 a.m., “The Pony Express.” Local historian Ken Valles “will tell the fascinating story of the short-lived Pony Express, then why the cattle drives started,” an OCCHS report states.
Enlivening his program will be “TV and movie clips, photos of paintings, stamps, routes and historical markers and more,” a society write-up adds.
The talk will be free to OCCHS members and $5 for others.
Dec. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., the Holiday Bazaar and Open House. Free and open to the public, the event will feature live music by the Pikes Peak Jazz Ensemble (which will play from the balcony) and a craft fair on the main floor, plus refreshments.
The bookstore and museum will also be open.
For more information on either event, call 636-1225 during regular center hours (Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
