Principals leaving Howbert, Midland; new hires by July

Two Westside elementary school principals are leaving after the school year ends in late May.
Departing are Debra Hawes, who started in 2011 at Howbert; and Jeremy Cramer, who started in 2010 at Midland. The replacement process is already under way, according to Devra Ashby, School District 11 spokesperson. The positions have been advertised, with interviews taking place, and “we anticipate having all new principal positions start July 1,” she said. Hawes and Cramer said they will miss their schools and will help transition their replacements, but are eager to move forward with the new goals they wish to pursue. For Hawes, it will be getting into the educational field of professional development. Through that medium, she hopes over time to spread her own philosophy that learning is at its best when students are “happy, safe and loved,” (like at Howbert), she said. Cramer, who had brought extensive overseas educational experience to Midland, said he had always held high esteem for the international school at Buenos Aires, Argentina. When the job for principal there came open, he applied and was delighted to be chosen. “I guess it was meant to be,” he said. Westside Pioneer article |
