Police add holiday foot patrols in OCC

       The Colorado Springs Police have announced that there will be foot patrols in Old Colorado City Monday to Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. through Dec. 31.
       The focus will be on West Colorado Avenue between 23rd and 28th Streets, states a press release from Lieutenant Jeff Jensen to the department's Gold Hill Station.
       “Officers will be highly visible to retail shop owners and patrons,” the release continues. “If criminal activity is observed, officers will take enforcement action.
       A shop for heroes
       Hero-related merchandise, shirts and collectibles (including some older comic books) are available at a new retail shop in Old Colorado City.
       Owned and managed by husband/wife team Josh and Garnetta Bevins, Heroes Hub Ltd. is at 2708B W. Colorado Ave. Josh served 12 years in the military, and Garnetta is studying for a masters in business administration.
       The business is open daily. A grand opening is Saturday, Nov. 14.
       The couple seeks to “offer goods that are normally only online and that are hard to find,” Josh said.
       According to Garnetta, “Since being stationed here in 2009, we have always enjoyed shopping in Old Colorado City. We thought why not open our store in a great location where we can serve not only locals but tourists.”

       Paint store at Red Rock
       A 5,000-square-foot space in the Red Rock shopping center, home to Blockbuster until about three years ago, has a new tenant.
       Colorado City Paint recently opened after a few months of renovation. The address is 3141 W. Colorado Ave.
       The doors are open Monday through Saturday.
       The owner is Rachel Melat-Robnett, who has been a painter and contractor for more than 20 years.
       The business carries Benjamin Moore paints. Other products include stains, coatings, and airless spray equipment.
       Rachel said she chose the Westside to start her business, as a “Colorado Springs native who grew up in this part of town. When I began considering opening this store a number of years ago, the Westside was my immediate thought for location.”

       'Grass station' opens
       A gas station with a medical marijuana (MMJ) dispensary is scheduled to open this year at a former Conoco station at 17th and Uintah streets. The owner is Native Roots, a Denver-based business that already has 12 MMJ locations around the state.
       The gas station, convenience store and dispensary will share the same building - 1,152 square feet at the Uintah site - but each will be a “separate entity,” a press release notes.
       The location, which has the formal address of 1705 W. Uintah St., is roughly a half-acre in size.
       Restaurant fundraiser
       Front Range Barbeque will sponsor a Fall Art & Craft Show Monday, Nov. 16 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. as a fundraiser for the nonprofit Concrete Couch.
       The restaurant, located at 2330 W. Colorado Ave., will have works on display from local artists. Live music will be performed by two bands. There is no admission charge.
       Concrete Couch is a local nonprofit that specializes in putting artistic touches on functional objects and making community volunteers an integral part of it. .

       40 years for artist
       Area clay artist Tony Heslop will be spotlighted at his 40-year anniversary show's opening reception Saturday, Nov. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hunter-Wolff Gallery, 2510 W. Colorado Ave.
