District 11 school news: Conner leads Coronado math team to semifinal slot

Matthew Conner of Coronado High School posted the highest score among the top six contestants in an annual Math Day competition Nov. 17 at Colorado State University - Pueblo.
In a team event, Coronado was a semifinalist behind winner Mesa Ridge. Team members were John Blatt, Greg Broughton and Paul Goggin, with Goggin receiving an individual honorable mention.
More than 300 students from Southern Colorado high schools participated.
Connor received his award based on an in-depth, problem-solving written test.
The Math Bowl Competition required two three-person teams to go head-to-head in a 15-minute contest, during which each team was alternately given a mathematical question and 25 seconds to respond.

Coronado art students joined others from around the district to create large, colorful paintings to welcome evacuees who have relocated here from hurricane- damaged areas
Suggested by outgoing Board of Education member Karen Teja, the paintings were aimed at dressing up the warehouse where Red Cross personnel processed these people at a large warehouse-style building.

The Holmes Middle School Jazz Band performed at Intel's Holiday Fair Dec. 13 at Intel's Garden of the Gods Road campus.
Other performers at the fair were the Urban League Child Development Center singers (who also decorated Intel's Christmas tree) and the Colorado Springs Dance Theatre Flamenco Dancers.
