Yergensen firm recognized for OCC design work

The Colorado Springs architectural firm that redesigned Old Colorado City in the late 1970s recently received a “25-year award” from the American Institute of Architects.
The firm of Yergensen, Obering and Whittaker (YOW) is the carry-over from Barber & Yergensen Architecture & Planning, which in 1978 was retained to develop an overall plan for a refurbished Old Colorado City.
Gene Yergensen, who continues to lend his name to the firm's shingle, said he is proud of the recognition and that his company's design - including the brick sidewalks, pedestrian-friendly intersection “bump-outs” and off-street parking areas - has lasted in the Westside's historic commercial district.
