Meet a Westsider:
Gregg Howson

Profession/Occupation... manager of Big Boyz Toyz.

What I like most about the Westside is... the sense of history and tradition... the big trees and the wonderful Victorian architecture. There is a story behind every old house and every old shop.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to stop the development of the foothills. I don’t enjoy seeing all those houses spoiling the scenery.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Little Big Man.” It’s got to be one of Dustin Hoffman’s best performances ever. It was just as good as the first time I saw it 20 years ago.

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... you don’t need to go to college – you’re going to be a rock star.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Paul McCartney. I’ve always loved the Beatles, and he was a big influence on my bass- playing style. I’m fortunate enough to own a 1971 Hofner Beatle bass, and it’s still one of my favorite basses to play.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... pack up my son and the camping gear and head west into Utah, Zion, Canyonlands, the Arches, Bryce Canyon... there are so many natural wonders to see there.

My favorite childhood memory is... all of us piling into the family station wagon, after dark, just before Christmas, to drive all over town and see all the Christmas lights and decorations.

My favorite fall pastime is... long, leisurely hikes in the mountains (followed closely by Bronco football.)

Something good I’ve read is.. “The Great Religions by Which Men Live”... informative and enlightening reading.

My pet peeve is... the way people drive in this city. It seems that no one knows how to be a thoughtful or courteous driver.

If I won the lottery, I’d... retire. Take care of family. Dedicate a lot of time to travel, music and art.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
