Auction of Broadmoor South furnishings at Norris-Penrose Nov. 11-12

Ever thought about owning something from the Broadmoor? The opportunity will present itself Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11- 12, in an auction at the Norris-Penrose Events Center's Indoor Arena.
Going from 10 a.m. to about 5 p.m. both days, the auction will sell all the furnishings from 144 rooms as well as lobbies, mezzanines and hallways, in the Broadmoor South hotel building. Items will include armoires, writing desks, marble top vanities, flat-screen TVs, paintings, Persian carpets, sofas, small refrigerators, bronzes, mattresses, bedding, draperies, lamps and decorative items, according to Bill Neal, who is organizing the event for Ross Auction.
“It's all wonderful stuff,” he said.
The arena will be open for free previews Thursday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The registration fee for the auction is $5. Norris-Penrose is at 1045 W. Rio Grande St.
There are so many items that two simultaneous auction “rings,” each worked by three auctioneers, will be operating throughout. Also, Neal is splitting the arena in half, equally dividing the goods to be sold both days. “That way, everyone gets a shot at the good stuff,” he said.
The Broadmoor will be replacing the furnishings as part of an upcoming project to greatly enlarge Broadmoor South. The work will involve tearing off the exterior walls on both the west and east walls, then building 18 feet farther out on both sides. One of the outcomes of this work will be much larger hotel rooms, Neal pointed out.
