Next Hwy 24 open house Nov. 10

The next public planning meeting for Westside Highway 24 has been scheduled for Nov. 10.
The meeting will be in an open-house format, going from 5 to 8 p.m. in the West Intergenerational Center, 25 N. 20th St.
Previously slated for August or September, the meeting was delayed several weeks to give Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and its consultants more time to finalize their proposals and make sure they are in synch with plans by any affected area governments, according to project spokesperson Kyle Blakely.
“We don't want to go to the public and have one of those agencies say, 'That ain't gonna happen,' ” he said.
There have been four public planning meetings, dating back to last November, on possible upgrades to Highway 24 between I- 25 and Manitou Springs. The first three chiefly took public comment, and the most recent session in June summarized and categorized ideas people had suggested.
The upcoming meeting has been anticipated because CDOT planners have indicated they will use those ideas, along with insights of their own, to generate preliminary plans to relieve congestion and otherwise improve that 6.5-mile stretch of road. Called “Level 2,” the plans will include a “ranking of potential solutions,” according to a recent flyer from CDOT.
