Wal-Mart ‘vote’ favors Washington teacher
Washington Elementary teacher Mike Hedges received a $1,000 check for classroom needs from the Eighth Street Wal-Mart last week.
The gift was a result of a new corporate program in which each store gets to select a “teacher of the year” based on anonymous ballots filled out by shoppers, according to Eighth Street store manager Ron McCall. Hedges is part of Washington's fourth- and fifth-grade “academy” with two other teachers (Jennifer Shaw and Brian Holcombe). His subjects are writing and science. Westside Pioneer/press release |
