Same day again in Old Town this year: Parade, pumpkins
For the second time in three years, Old Colorado City will have a parade and pumpkins on the same day.
Saturday, Oct. 4 will lead off with the 39th annual Coronado High Homecoming Parade, starting at 9 a.m. Featuring about 30 entries in all, the parade will move down Colorado Avenue - which will be closed off for the morning between 30th and 24th streets - to a pep rally in Bancroft Park. The 4th Annual Giant Pumpkin festivities will start in the Old Town Plaza at 25th Street and Colorado Avenue at 11 a.m. with a judging by Plaza merchants of the best pre-carved pumpkins citizens bring in. From noon to 4 p.m. will be the Old Colorado City Associates' weigh-off of pumpkins trucked in by area growers. Last year's pumpkin winner weighed more than 1,000 pounds. Both events are free and open to the public. Westside Pioneer/press release |
