Work starts on PV welcome island

Work has begun on the traffic island that is to hold the welcome sign for the Pleasant Valley neighborhood.
Last week, city crews tore out the two-foot-deep blacktop in the 5,000-square-foot area between traffic lanes on 31st Street near Bijou Street.
Dirt was scheduled to come in this week, followed by the installation of the river rock around the island edges, the placing of the welcome sign and the planting of 180 low-water bushes, according to Jim Corcoran of the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood Association. The association is working with City Parks on the project.
