Meet a Westsider:
Mike Greer
Profession/Occupation... owner/ mechanic at Japanese Auto Specialist.
What I like most about the Westside is... all the parks, Garden of the Gods, Red Rock, Bear Creek, Monu-ment Valley and Beidleman. If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... I’d like to have better access from Garden of the Gods to Red Rock Canyon. Also a construction store like Home Depot. A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “War of the Worlds,” with Tom Cruise. It was a good show. The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... probably back when I first started the business. I was told that most businesses fail within the first 5 years. I’ve been in business now since 1979. If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... the Wright brothers, Orville & Wilbur. They had a going business and they set it aside to pursue their dreams. It takes a lot of guts to do that when you have a profitable business and you take the chance of going broke. The next time I travel, I’m going to... I’m thinking of going to Hawaii. I’ve been there before but I’d like to take my wife there. My favorite childhood memory is... just hanging around the Westside. I remember that in Old Colorado City, there used to be a toy store that had a balcony. Also hiking in the Garden of the Gods. Getting up on the rocks and being so scared about getting down. My friends and I used to do a lot of stuff on our own. My favorite summer pastime is... riding my bike on all the trails, including Gold Camp Road. I can stay on the trails most of the time; they’re pretty well linked. Something good I’ve read is.. “Nothing Like It In the World: the Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad, 1863-1869,” by Stephen Ambrose. My pet peeve is... people who answer cell phones while we’re talking and then they take the call. If I won the lottery, I’d... invest in new technology that I want to get off the ground. I want to build exercise simulators. Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776. |
