Founders' Day, Aug. 9, Bancroft Park (free)
10-10:30 a.m. - Serendipity Peak Dulcimers. 11 a.m.-noon - Shadow Mountain String Band and the Victorian Society Dancers. Noon-12:30 p.m. - walking tour of historic Old Colorado City. 12:30-1 p.m. - Victorian Society Dancers. 1-1:30 p.m. - CountyLine Ramblers. 1:30-2 p.m. - Gunfighters of the Resurrection (reenactors). 3-3:30 p.m. - walking tour of historic Old Colorado City. All day (8 a.m.-3:30) - craft fair, Garvin Cabin open. Carnegie Day, Aug. 9, Old Colorado City Library (free) 10:30 a.m. - Reading by Maria Faulconer of her children's book, “Arianna and the Strawberry Tea.” 11:15 a.m. - “Carnegie Grand Hotel” children's activity (reservations required). 2 p.m. - Storyteller Opalanga Pugh as former slave/Colorado success story Aunt Clara Brown. Cemetery Crawl, Aug. 10, Fairview Cemetery (fee) (Note: The name of each historical figure below is followed in parentheses by the portrayer's name) Laura Belle McDaniel (Jennifer Tilton) - famous Old Colorado City madam who died in a car accident in 1918. Anthony Bott (Paul Shepard) - Co-founder of Colorado City and long-time town leader. Jacob Schmidt (Dave Hughes) - owner of saloon/delicatessan in Colorado City. Katherine Lamont (Kathy McBride) - wife of Baptist minister Duncan Lamont. Both opposed the town's saloons and red light district. Hattie Hedges Trout (Sharon Swint) - Early Colorado City resident whose family moved from Illinois when she was a young girl in 1867. Dr. Isaac Winternitz (Phil McDonald) - A late-1800s doctor on Colorado Avenue (whose son and grandson also practiced in Colorado Springs). Mrs. Edward Baxter (Sarah Swint) - the wife of a promising newspaperman who died in an opium joint. Mayor Oliver Ingraham (Ken Markus) - A former mayor of Colorado City.
