Meet a Westsider:
Barbara Kelley

Profession/Occupation... Home-schooling mom and volunteer at Rock Ledge Ranch.

What I like most about the Westside is... the neighborliness. I like the small-town feel that comes from the community.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to see Camp Creek like it once was. Leave some vegetation, cement in boulders, plant trees, create a more natural-looking environment.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... the last movie I really enjoyed was the “Lord of the Rings, Return of the King.”

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... We’ve been given lots of bad advice on how we should be doing things differently with our kids’ education, but we’ve always done what we felt worked best for our family and we’re so pleased with how homeschooling works for us.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Billy Graham, because he’s lived long, well and with integrity.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... Michigan for a memorial service for my husband’s grandma. She was 98 when she passed away.

My favorite childhood memory is... spending hours and hours in the swimming pool during the summer. I grew up in Phoenix and my folks did all their entertaining poolside during the summer.

My favorite summer pastime is... besides being a taxi service for my kids, it’s spending time at Rock Ledge Ranch. All four of my boys are involved in their junior docent program. This summer, my oldest son and I are also working at the ranch. I highly recommend the junior docent program there. They do an excellent job with it.

Something good I’ve read is.. I have a lot of favorite authors. I just read Janet Evanovich’s latest book, “Eleven on Top,” and that was a lot of fun.

My pet peeve is... stoplights that turn and stay red for a long time when there is no cross-traffic present.

If I won the lottery, I’d... add an extra room on to our house. And go on a family mission trip.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
