Meet a Westsider:
Bill Schoknecht
Profession/Occupation... Owner and operator of a small business called Repair Time.
What I like most about the Westside is... The friendliness of the people on the Westside make you feel like you're in a small town. Neighbors truly do help other neighbors. If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... I would make a park east of 21st Street where the gold refinery used to be. A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Master and Commander.” The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... Buy that new car. We did and five years later we had replaced about everything on it, including the paint. If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Alan Alda. I've watched all the MASH episodes at least twice. I was in the Army during the Korean conflict based at Fort Carson in the 708 ordinance weapons pool. The next time I travel, I’m going to... I've always wanted to do one of those coastal cruises which goes north along the Alaskan coast. My favorite childhood memory is... Swimming and fishing on Lake Michigan. I grew up in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and spent my summers playing on the lake. My favorite summer pastime is... Xeriscape gardening. Our backyard was just weeds and now it's a beautiful place to sit and read and relax. Something good I’ve read is.. "The Bounty: The True Story of the Mutiny on the Bounty," by Caroline Alexander. My pet peeve is... My pet peeves are other drivers and waiting in line for anything If I won the lottery, I’d... Not only would I share it with our kids, but I'd take my wife and I on that Alaskan cruise. Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776. |
