What do you do?
Kasie Swain

Where do you work and what is your title?
I am the manager of “The Original” Andrea’s Mountain Shadow’s Restaurant.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I manage the restaurant and wait tables. I’m responsible for the smooth running of day-to-day operations.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Twenty years. I have been with Ray and Andrea for 12 years. I was born and raised on the Westside!
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I love the people and waiting on them. I have seen families bring their kids and now those kids are bringing their own kids. It’s comfort food for me. It’s been a successful restaurant because it feels like home here. It’s a fun place to work and it shows.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
Tara’s attitude ... what are we going to do with Tara? She’s just a saucy little thing... ha, ha! [Note: Tara is Ray’s daughter and a fellow employee.]
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
What training? It was all on the job. Ray taught me everything about this restaurant and the rest I learned on my own. It’s all from experience, and a lot of it is hit and miss.
What makes working on the Westside special?
I love seeing the people I grew up with and I like seeing their kids growing up. It’s amazing when I hear someone say, “I know you...” and it’s usually from grade school, the original Midland Elementary where Our Lady of the Rockies is now.

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
