Farewells planned at 4 closing schools

       They have been Westside neighborhood schools for decades. Now they are planning their good-byes.
       Buena Vista, Pike, Washington and Whittier elementaries have each scheduled dates and times for events to memorialize their school closings.
       Here are the dates and times (each event at the respective school):
  • Whittier, 2904 W. Kiowa St. - Friday, May 15. at 2 p.m. (Phone 328-4900.)
  • Buena Vista, 1620 W. Bijou St. - Friday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m. (Phone 328-4100.)
  • Washington, 924 W. Pikes Peak Ave. - Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. (Phone 328-4800.)
  • Pike, 2510 N. Chestnut St. - Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. (Phone 328-4600.)
           Details on festivities are still being worked out, but in all cases former staff and students are invited, as well as members of the school's respective neighborhoods and the community at large. Food and beverages and various types of entertainment will be provided.
