1st of 7 Garden workdays April 16
The Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) has scheduled seven volunteer workdays in the Garden of the Gods over the next
three weekends, starting Saturday, April 16.
“Our current focus is controlling erosion in gullies formed by old social trails,” according to a press release from RMFI outreach coordinator Liz Nichol. “We are building small check dams to slow the flow of storm water and trap sediment. This involves moving tons of small rocks and soil by hand, since machines would further disturb the fragile sandy soil and vegetation.” Other scheduled days are April 17, 23, 24 and 30, and May 1 and 8. Pre-registration is required for volunteers. For more information, call 471-7736. From a press release |
