Open House/Auction for BV Montessori April 14
The public is invited to a Community Open House and Silent Auction for Buena Vista Elementary's Montessori program
Thursday, April 14, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The free event, including a chance to visit Montessori classrooms “in action,” will be at the school, 1620 W. Bijou St. The goal of the auction is to raise money for tuition assistance. The Montessori program is free for grades 1-5, but the district/school does not cover costs for preschool or full-time kindergarten. “We would like to provide as much assistance to our local neighborhood families as possible, and we need your help,” said Sue Spengler, a parent who has helped lead the program's formation at Buena Vista. “There will be some amazing goods and services to bid on, and all the money raised in the Silent Auction will be used directly to provide pre-school or kindergarten tuition assistance for our own neighborhood kids to get a great start on their education.” This is the first year for Buena Vista's Montessori; it is also the first year for the program at a public school in the Pikes Peak region. The school still offers traditional classes, but will gradually change to a complete Montessori School after 2005-06. A Primary class (ages 3-6) and a Lower Elementary class (ages 6-9) are currently offered. In 2005-2006, there will be five Montessori classes: Two Primary classes, two Lower Elementary, and one Upper Elementary class (ages 9-12). Both the Primary and Lower Elementary classrooms will be open during the open house. “Students will be working with materials and will be happy to demonstrate them to you,” Spengler said. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served. Cash and checks will be accepted for silent auction items.
