Hughes to discuss Colorado City and Civil War
Westside historian Dave Hughes will give a presentation titled “Colorado, Colorado City, and the Civil War” at the Old
Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th Street, Friday, April 8.
The talk will begin at 11 a.m. There is no charge, but donations are welcome. Hughes will discuss events and issues connecting Colorado City with state and national events of the 1860s and 1870s, including the little-known Civil War battle of Glorieta Pass in northern New Mexico. Hughes, a retired U.S. Army colonel and owner of an Old Colorado City computer service, is the treasurer for the Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS). A 5,000-word history he wrote about Glorieta Pass was published in the January/February 2005 edition of the Assembly, a magazine for West Point graduates. The History Center, operated by the OCCHS, will open at 10 a.m. April 8 for coffee and museum visitation. For more information, call 636-1225. Westside Pioneer article |
