Westside schools: 7 Coronado instrumentalists play in All-State Orchestra

Several Coronado High students performed Feb. 12 at Colorado University at Boulder in the All-State Orchestra. They are Lydia Demi-Smith, violin; McKay Harline, violin; Abby Klein, violin; Aubrey Yeh, viola; Rhonda Wilkenson, viola; Veselka Kuzma, cello; and Colin Oldberg, trumpet.
To make the All-State Orchestra, students had to be selected through an audition process.

Part of the new, historic-style fence along Pikes Peak Avenue in front of West Middle School has been installed. Principal Joe Torrez said District 11 facilities crews got called off temporarily to another task, but should be back to finish in the near future. Fence sections are still to be installed, on the east, to the corner of 19th Street and Pikes Peak Avenue; and, on the west, to a sidewalk from a secondary school entrance along Pikes Peak Avenue.
The fence, intended to increase safety and bring out a sense of the school building's 85-year-old history, is part of an effort by West to spruce up its “front yard.” Landscaping efforts, to which community volunteers are invited, are planned for later this spring, according to Torrez.
