‘Fourth Saturday’ event for families at Westside Center
Following its inaugural “Second Saturday Sensations” for teens Feb. 12, the Westside Community Center will host its initial “Fourth Saturday Family Fusion” Feb.
26.
The event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature many of the same activities as Second Saturday, except that the goal is to attract kids with their parents and/or other adult family members, according to center director Dick Siever. “Everything will be free, including lunch,” he said. No reservations are needed. Among the offerings will be indoor sports such as dodgeball, indoor soccer/hockey and bucketball - similar to what was offered at Second Saturday. Also available will be a karaoke opportunity and bingo games, with prizes. The Second Saturday drew participation by 17 youths of middle and high school ages. There was minimal formality, allowing kids to drop in or leave whenever they pleased during the roughly three-hour event. “I think it went extremely well,” said Dick Wolf, who helps Siever oversee the center's activities. “It's nice to see kids coming to their center. Most of them hadn't been here before. It would be nice if everyone that showed up brought a friend next time.”
The next Second Saturday will be March 12. The only change Siever anticipates then will be starting an hour later (11 a.m. instead of 10). “The kids didn't want to get up that early,” he chuckled. Both the Second and Fourth Saturday events will continue monthly through May, according to Siever. Westside Pioneer article |
