Next public-info meeting on avenue project scheduled in Manitou Feb. 28

Fountain Creek is being diverted west of Columbia Road to allow construction work for the new Adams Crossing Bridge. The flow is first directed into an improvised open channel that's about 50 feet north of the regular creekbed, and then (as seen in this photo, looking east toward Columbia) into a temporary pipe system. From there, the pipes carry the water under the old bridge before releasing it back into the creek.

One of the info sessions every few months on the Westside Avenue Action Plan (WAAP) project will be Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Called “Coffee with the Contractor,” it will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in Manitou Springs City Hall, 606 Manitou Ave.
The public is welcome, and free coffee will be available.
Funded primarily by the sales-tax-supported Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority, WAAP is a $30.9 million multi-government project that is implementing major upgrades along Colorado Avenue west of 31st Street, including the new Adams Crossing Bridge over Fountain Creek at Columbia Road.
The meetings typically consist of summaries by the contractor (Wildcat Construction) and managing government entity (El Paso County) about work progress, schedules and traffic impacts. Questions from the public are welcome.
”Coffee” meetings started last summer, with the most recent one in mid-November.
Started in December 2016, the overall project is slated for completion in December of this year.
For more information, the project hotline is 301-3801.
