From bugs to bears

Forrest Dorman, a Caņon City chainsaw-sculpture craftsman, creates the first of seven bears on four elm trees Feb. 9 at the Spurs and Lace Bed & Breakfast Inn at 2829 W. Pikes Peak Ave. Each bear will be different, Dorman said. The creations came about when Spurs co-owner Leo Janzen noticed the elms had become too bug-infested to live. Instead of cutting them down and replanting new trees, he said, he decided to try something different. So he topped them off about 10 feet high and called in Dorman. The chainsaw specialist said he expected the work would take him two to three days.
