Meet a Westsider:
Neil C. Luehring
Profession/Occupation... Paramedic lieutenant and public information officer for the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
What I like most about the Westside is... the character of the area and the character of the people. As a life-time Westside resident, I am familiar with many of the long-time families and their histories. I think they personify what a community is all about.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to improve access to the north and east parts of town. Trying to get to those areas during rush hour can be extremely frustating.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Ladder 49.” Take out the Hollywood and you have a fair idea of what makes firefighters tick.
The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... I can’t say I recall receiving any really bad advice. However, I have had a few bad experiences that usually started out by someone saying something like, “Hey, watch this...”
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Jimmy Buffet. I admire how he has combined his sense of adventure with a sense for business.
The next time I travel, I’m going to... Richmond, Virginia, to visit my daughter and her husband. When I travel it is usually either to visit family or to go fly-fishing; on this trip I plan to do both.
My favorite childhood memory is... fishing with my dad.
My favorite fall pastime is... fly-fishing on Colorado’s great rivers.
Something good I’ve read is.. I’m a fairly avid reader so I’m always looking for a good book. I recently enjoyed James Lee Burke’s “In the Moon with Red Ponies,” and I’m currently working on Joseph Heywood’s “The Snowfly.”
My pet peeve is... rude or inconsiderate people.
If I won the lottery, I’d... share the wealth with my sisters and their families, as they and my own immediate family are what I value most.
