Post-Christmas garden center closure to last 4 weeks, allowing interior remodeling Dec. 21, 2018After staying open a half-day on Christmas Eve, Rick's Garden Center will close until Jan. 21 for remodeling of the retail store at 1827 W. Uintah St. Jeana Hopper, who owns the business with her husband Dan, said the work will include painting, resurfacing the floors and “reorienting the floor plan” to create about 5 percent more retail space and improve the flow at the cash registers. The four-week closure will be twice as long as the business' typical closure of two weeks around Christmas and New Year's. The closure includes the Garden Center's nursery, which has its access off Armstrong Avenue. Jeana Hopper said that signs will be posted outside the building to let the public know what's happening. The Hoppers bought Rick's this year from Mike and Gail Estes, who had owned it since 1985, consolidating the center and nursery operations in 2013. For more information, call 632-8491.
