Annexation of Red Rock Canyon Open Space on City Council agenda

A city staff proposal to annex the balance of the Red Rock Canyon Open Space property (751.1 acres) into the City of Colorado Springs is scheduled to go before City Council at its meeting Tuesday, Dec. 14.
The hearing date was set in late October.
According to City Planner James Mayerl, part of the property's total acreage (788.1 acres) is already in the city, while the part to be annexed is currently unincorporated land.
“The annexation is being proposed because we want to make it part of the city. It will be owned by the city (City of Colorado Springs Public Facility Authority) and so it makes sense to make it part of the City,” Mayerl said.
Red Rock is located off Highway 24 between the Westside and Manitou Springs.
