OWN plans nominating panel for Jan. election
The Organization of Westside Neighbors (OWN) will talk about January's annual board member election at its meeting Thursday, Dec. 14 at the West Intergener-
ational Center, 25 N. 20th St.
The meeting, open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m.
Another possible meeting topic will be the status of the long-proposed Historic Overlay for the older Westside. The plan has been delayed for about a year because OWN does not have the roughly $10,000 needed to contract for the development of design guidelines.
Additionally, OWN has begun analyzing responses to the survey of people's wishes for Highway 24 that appeared in its fall newsletter. There have been more than 100 responses so far, according to OWN President Welling Clark.
The election, to choose three new members for the nine-member board, will take place at the membership meeting Thursday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Colorado Springs Police Gold Hill Substation, 955 W. Moreno Ave.
Available seats are At-Large 1 and Districts 1 and 6. District 1 is basically the Midland area and District 6 the Near Westside. Terms are for three years. The current office-holders - Dave Hughes (At-Large), Phil Miceli (D-1) and Jim Fenimore (D-6) have not yet announced if they will run again.
OWN President Welling Clark said he hopes to set up a nominating committee, as was used last year, to work with potential candidates. As allowed in the OWN charter, the committee will consist of volunteer representatives from each of OWN's six geographical districts.
Westsiders 18 and over living within the OWN boundaries are eligible to vote. Also eligible to vote are Westside residential property owners.
OWN is the city-recognized neighborhood advocacy group for the older Westside.
