Biz buzz:
Thunder & Buttons II opens; bands scheduled on weekends

Thunder & Buttons II, a “new/old” business, opened Nov. 24.
The restaurant/bar is named after the popular original club at the same address - 2415 W. Colorado Ave. - that operated in Old Colorado City through the '80s and early '90s.
The new operation is owned by Barb Walker, an Air Force Academy graduate and commercial airlines pilot who used to enjoy going to the original T&B's. Her flying background is evident in the new club logo, showing a dashing female pilot. The original club logo featured two elk named Thunder and Buttons who, according to historical reports, pulled a carriage for legendary Colorado City madam Laura Belle McDaniel.
Thunder & Buttons II is open daily for lunch and dinner, with appetizers served after 9 p.m.
Live bands are scheduled to play on weekends, plus Thursday, Dec. 2. (see listings in Westside Happenings, Page 7).
       The phone is 447-9888.

Unique Boutique has closed its doors on Colorado Avenue, but this is only because the clothing store is moving to a bigger location at 2 S. 25th St. (the old two-story house that formerly housed McKelvey's Cafe), where a lunch-time tearoom will be an added feature.
Owner Loraine Mace tentatively plans to open the new site for business Monday, Dec. 6. The tearoom will be on the lower level, with the boutique on the upper level.
Mace said she also expects to have her assistants model apparel while lunch is served.

Jan MacKell will be at Adobe Walls Antique Mall and Trading Post, 2808 W. Colorado Ave., from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 to talk about her new book "Brothels, Bordellos and Bad Girls: Prostitution in Colorado 1860-1930."
A descendant of Colorado pioneers, MacKell is a previously published author who is also involved with several historical institutions, including the Cripple Creek District Museum and El Paso County Pioneers' Association.

Harris Group Realtors is collecting canned goods and other non-perishable items to help stock the Care & Share pantry. Donations are welcomed weekdays through Dec. 20 at the Harris Group office in the Kissing Camels Office Park, 2950 Professional Place, Suite 205.
