Meet a Westsider:
Cristin Houchin-Byrne

Profession/Occupation... I’m a bulk mail technician in the United States Postal Service.

What I like most about the Westside is... the small-town feeling and running into friends at the stores.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to stop all the building in the current open spaces along Mesa Road. It’s driving the wildlife into our housing development. And I especially don’t want the Sentinel Ridge development to be approved because it will also cause a lot of traffic problems near Holmes Middle School.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Elizabeth, the Golden Age.”

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... “Take my advice.”

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Actually, I’ve met quite a few from working at Keystone Resort, including Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood, President Gerald Ford, Bob Hope, Janet Leigh, Andy Williams, Glen Campbell, Christopher Reeve, Dan Fogelberg, Telly Savales and many more. But My Maker would be the most important.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... Denmark. We have hosted 17 students from there, and I look forward to going back and seeing all my friends there again.

My favorite childhood memory is... I grew up in Green Mountain Falls, and I enjoyed just being able to hike around everywhere and being outdoors a lot.

My favorite fall pastime is... gardening, in any season.

Something good I’ve read is.. “Pillars of the Earth” and the sequel, “World Without End,” by Ken Follett.

My pet peeve is... walking past people smoking outside doors of public buildings. Also, the vandalism and trash from the students walking home from Holmes Middle School and Coronado High.

If I won the lottery, I’d... pay off my debt, assist my family with their needs and donate to the kidney foundation because my husband has kidney disease.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
