Meet a Westsider:
Speech and language pathologist. I do traditional speech/language therapy and also assistive technology. I evaluate children who are unable so speak to find the best way for them to
communicate. This might be by pointing to pictures, doing sign language, or using a computer or communication device specific to the student's abilities and challenges.
What I like most about the Westside is... the camaraderie of the people – “Westsiders are the bestsiders!”
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to have Pleasant Valley not be on a flood plain and therefore not have to pay flood insurance.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “Rear Window.” You can't beat Hitchcock for suspense.
I'd like to discover... the cause of autism. Children with autism have a magical side to them that needs to be treasured. At the same time, the challenges to the children and their families can be many.
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Frank Lloyd Wright. I love architecture.
The next time I travel, I’m going to... Puget Sound, at Seattle, Wash., where we lived for a while. We love Bainbridge Island, which is a short ferry ride from Seattle. The winery and gardens are amazing.
My favorite childhood memory is... cutting our family's Christmas tree in the mountains in Montana where I grew up. We always had chili cooked over the open fire with great toboggan rides afterwards.
My favorite fall pastime is... taking photos in the Garden of the Gods and Rock Ledge Ranch with my husband Dave and dog Rocket.
Something good I’ve read is... “The Three Laws of Performance,” which empowers us to rewrite the future instead of fixing problems.
My pet peeve is... nonstop barking.
If I won the lottery... I will retire in May, so this is true for me! I really like what I do so I will do speech/language pathology part-time and art the other days! I am hoping to take more colored-pencil classes and also to dabble in watercolors.
