Holiday lights contest in Pleasant Valley

Think you'll have a pretty good Christmas display this year? It could win you a prize, if you live in Pleasant Valley.
The first annual Outdoor Holiday Lighting Contest is being offered by the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood Association (PVNA).
Entry forms will be accepted until Dec. 5, according to PVNA Vice-President Ron Wright. There is no fee.
To give entrants a better chance, the association has divided Pleasant Valley into quadrants for the contest. Also, the contest is only open to residents, not businesses or places with professional displays.
In each quadrant, judges from the PVNA's Special Activity Committee will grade displays (on a scale of 1 to 5) in the categories of theme, use of color, originality and tradition, and a first, second and honorable mention will be selected.
Judging will take place over the week of Dec. 13.
Wright, who has won awards for his display (see adjoining story), said he has disqualified himself from the competition, in part to focus on making the event a success.
As part of the event planning, the Special Activity Committee is asking Westside businesses to donate gift certificates for the event.
For more information about entering the competition or providing a business gift certificate, call Ron Wright at 632-2313.
