In memoriam: Paul Shepard
A gathering at the Old Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th St., is scheduled Sunday, Nov. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. in memory of Paul Shepard, 72, a center volunteer who passed away Nov. 13 after an extended illness.
He has been buried at Fairview Cemetery in a private ceremony, a family member said this week.
Mr. Shepard was born June 13, 1939, in Colorado Springs, and grew up on the Westside, attending West Junior High and Manitou Springs High School.
His Westside history went back two generations, with his grandparents having moved to Colorado City in 1919.
A retired Widefield schoolteacher, Mr. Shepard started volunteering with the Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS) in 2008.
Until recent months, he had been a member of the OCCHS board and its research committee. In '08 and '09, he portrayed Colorado City co-founder Anthony Bott at the OCCHS' annual Cemetery Crawl at Fairview Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Sally, his son Tom, his daughter Susan and a grandson.
The Nov. 27 gathering was at the request of the family, according to board member Jo Cervone. There will be light refreshments and “time for people to get together and remember Paul,” she said.
