Author’s La Glorieta talk at History Center Dec. 2
Author/military historian Flint Whitlock will present a slide show and lecture about the West's key Civil War battle - La Glorieta Pass in New Mexico - at the Old
Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th St., Saturday, December 2, at 11 a.m.
The presentation is free and open to the public, although donations are welcomed.
Whitlock wrote the book, “Distant Bugles, Distant Drums: The Union Response to the Confederate Invasion of New Mexico” (University Press of Colorado, 2006).
The 1862 battle, which included Union soldiers recruited from the Colorado City area, stymied a Confederate scheme to invade New Mexico from Texas and eventually move into Colorado to capture the gold and silver mines.
A Denver resident, Whitlock is an ex-Army officer who lived in Colorado Springs from 1969-74. He has authored five books, four of which focus on World War II.
