Westside Community Center taking donations for Christmas Unlimited toy drive
Donations (unwrapped) will be taken until the end of November for ages infant to age 17, according to Aundrea Fuller, marketing coordinator for the center.
She said that suggested toys are traditional board games, sporting goods (especially balls of all kinds), building sets, play kitchen items, dolls and action figures, personal care items for older children (only new), electronic items (such as mp3 players, cameras and games), bicycles with 16” and 20” wheels, scooters, wagons, toddler ride-on toys, arts-and-crafts items and science-and-collection kits.
“Used toys must be clean and in working order,” Fuller added. “Items such as hats, gloves and scarves and batteries for the toys are also acceptable.”
People are asked to bring the items to the Westside Community Center's main office at 1628 W. Bijou St. (accessible from the alley off 17th Street between Bijou Street and Platte Avenue). The facility is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except days when School District 11 is closed for snow. For more information, call 385-7920 x100.
According to its website, Christmas Unlimited is a local nonprofit that aids needy families and youths and has held a holiday toy drive (in one form or another) for 93 years, partnering with schools and community service agencies.
The toy distribution takes place shortly before Christmas. For more information, call 597-1821 or go to christmasunlimited.org.
