2nd public meeting Nov. 30 on restrooms in Garden of the Gods Nov. 17, 2017A second public meeting has been scheduled by Colorado Springs Parks in the process to expand restroom availability in the Garden of the Gods City Park. The meeting, to discuss what the city has termed the “Garden of the Gods Facility Improvement Plan,” will be Thursday, Nov. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The session will follow up on the first get-together - held in late October - which considered city-suggested improvements at the two current facilities and/or the addition of other locations within the park. On Nov. 30, City Parks officials “plan to review what was learned from the public during the first meeting, along with what was gained from onsite surveys and stakeholder input, and to start looking at concept approaches for design,” said Jennifer Schreuder of City Communications. Based on the project schedule, planners will draw up a final design for the monthly City Parks Advisory Board at its monthly meeting Dec. 14. Board members, who are authorized to make the final decision on a restroom plan, had received a preliminary presentation at their November meeting. A total of $470,000 has been budgeted for the project from the city's Trails, Open Space and Parks (TOPS) fund. Parks planner David Deitemeyer said that amount will cover the design but only a portion of the construction costs. “We anticipate additional funding will be necessary for the full implementation of the approved Garden of the Gods facilities improvement plan,” he elaborated. “Once we have a clear plan and an understanding of what will be built, we can initiate the fundraising for the implementation.” The city has created a website for the project: coloradosprings.gov/gogrestrooms.
