Where do you work and what is your title?
I own DAT’S Italian restaurant in Old Colorado City, along with my husband, Dennis.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
Everything, just everything! I order the food, create recipes and do most of the cooking. Along with Dennis, I do the bookkeeping and keep up our website. I also do the maintenance and upkeep.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I’ve been doing this kind of work all my life. Starting at home! On the Westside for a year and a half. We decided to open a restaurant because my mother, grandmother and great grandmother dreamed of doing that. So I wanted to fullfill that dream for them and for myself. I absolutely love cooking and people.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
Meeting so many wonderful people and being able to make them happy and content. To me food and people go together –feeding people is an expression of love. I do want to thank my family and friends because this is a family affair and without them, this venture wouldn’t be possible or as enjoyable.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
That we could have more people dine with us so we can be here forever and maybe a tad less hours so I could have more time with my husband, for sure.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
The stress can be a bit overwelming at times and no one is really trained or educated on how to deal with stress.
What makes working on the Westside special?
It’s such a pleasant small town atmosphere. Great people live here, great people visit here.
