East-West traffic moving OK
Despite continuing lane closures at the Bijou Street bridge and Colorado Avenue underpass, no major traffic backups have been occurring since the Cimarron Street
bridge closed Halloween night.
“We haven't had any complaints,” said David Krauth of Traffic Engineering, although he is aware of concerns about Colorado Avenue only having two lanes under I- 25.
Eastbound Highway 24 traffic is detoured to Colo-rado Avenue at Eighth Street. Some westbound traffic is also being pointed that way.
The avenue will not return to full four lanes until Thanksgiving, according to officials with COSMIX, the interstate widening project. The current narrowing is necessary to finish the new I-25 bridge over the avenue.
The new Cimarron bridge is due for completion in mid-May. Demolition of the old bridge is planned to start Friday, Nov. 9 and last about a week, Krauth said.
