Meet a Westsider:
Volunteer. I donate services to the Mesa Springs Community Association, the Palmer Land Trust, the Red Cross, the ACLU, and the Colorado Department of Wildlife.
What I like most about the Westside is... is that architecturally, unlike much of the rest of Colorado Springs, the Westside has the appearance of a community rather than a collection of seemingly unrelated housing developments.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to emphasize the riparian features of the area by making the stream sides of Fountain Creek a public park for its entire course through the Westside, and by “naturalizing” that ugly concrete drainage channel that runs west on 31th Street from Rock Ledge Ranch. It's a blot on an otherwise lovely neighborhood.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... the Monty Python film “The Meaning of Life”. Once you've seen that, it's hard to take anything seriously.
I'd like to discover... if there's a more awkwardly named park than our very own “America the Beautiful” park.
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Richard Feynman, the great American physicist.
The next time I travel, I’m going to... to visit Eastern Europe.
My favorite childhood memory is... turning 18 and leaving childhood behind, or so I thought at the time.
My favorite fall pastime is... walking through the woods as the leaves are changing and going home to a hot toddy by the fire.
Something good I’ve read is.. “Desert Solitaire,” by Edward Abby.
My pet peeve is... people, apparently unfamiliar with the term “fact-check,” who clutter up my e-mail box with deadly serious messages warning me of vast conspiracies, usually based on the paranoid rants of certain talk show hosts.
If I won the lottery... I would spend money on wild parties, expensive travel, and fine wine. The rest I would squander.
Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
