900-pounder this year’s giant
A 900-pound entry by Barry Todd of Littleton nabbed the $300 first prize in the eighth annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off Oct. 20 in Old Colorado City.
There were a total of 21 entries, including smaller squashes and gourds.
It was the second straight year Todd has taken first. Second was the entry by Joe Scherber of Wheat Ridge, 628 pounds ($200); and third place went to Ken and Beth Barrett of Peyton, 430 pounds ($100).
About 500 people dropped by during the five hours the large vegetables were on display in the Old Town Plaza parking lot, according to Pam Gressett, who organized the event for the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) business group.
