OWN: Spirit Awards, Highway 24 talk Oct. 28

The sixth annual Spirit Awards, honoring property upgrades, will be presented by the Organization of Westside Neighbors (OWN) at its quarterly membership meeting Thursday, Oct. 28.
The meeting, free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Westside Community Center, 1628 W. Bijou St.
The winners in residential and business categories will have been determined by a panel of judges before the meeting. According to OWN President Welling Clark, “These awards are in recognition of those neighbors and businesses that have instilled community spirit by renovating, remodeling or building new.”
The property owners will be given certificates.
Also scheduled at the meeting are an update by the Colorado Department of Transportation on the long-discussed Westside High-way 24 expansion (starting at 8 p.m.) and a question/ answer opportunity with representatives from the city and county (8:30 p.m.), Clark said.
OWN is the city-recognized advocacy group for the older Westside area.
