COSMIX work becoming visible
Work has begun to widen the bridges over Colorado Avenue and the Midland Trail as part of the COSMIX I-25 widening project. Crews with project contractor
Rockrimmon Constructors have also begun digging up the area of the former southbound on-ramp from the Bijou Street interchange in preparation for drainage and
utility improvements, according to Bill Badger of Rockrimmon.
Traffic continues to neck down to two lanes on Colorado Avenue under I-25, with occasional late-night full closures - such as Oct. 10 when the old overhangs on the east side of the overpass were removed. Rubble from that work was still visible this week in the section of Spruce Street which has been closed for the project between Pikes Peak and Colorado avenues.
By early January, the Bijou bridge is to close (for about nine months), Colorado Avenue will get back its second eastbound lane, and a temporary southbound I-25 off-ramp will be built south of Bijou, feeding onto Pikes Peak Avenue.
