OCCA organizes expo
More than 20 Old Colorado City merchants set up an “expo” in the downstairs and first floor of the Old Town GuestHouse Oct. 15 to show their wares to people in
the hospitality industry.
Not that the historic shopping district is unknown - “We send people there every day,” according to Sheila Charles of the Convention & Visitors Bureau - but the expo should help such folks “recommend Old Colorado City with confidence, knowing they're going to get quality products,” explained Mazie Baalman, owner of the Chocolate Factory.
Other entities expected to have representatives during the five-hour event included the Broadmoor Hotel and the Cheyenne Mountain Resort, said Baalman, a board member of the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA), which organized the expo.
Diane Dimbat, manager of Thunder & Buttons, said the Old Colorado City restaurant wanted to participate because the showcase “not only brings outside people to the Westside but it helps Westside merchants see we're all one team.”
The OCCA is a volunteer group representing the Old Colorado City shopping district.
All Breed Rescue & Training will hold a “Howl-o-ween Dog Wash-a-Thon” on Friday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wag-n-Wash, 1625 West Uintah St.
Proceeds from the event will support All Breed, a non-profit that protects at-risk shelter dogs. Donations of $20 (minimum $10) are requested.
Appointments are recommended at 264-6460.
