At the invitation of the U.S. Navy, West space and technology teacher Ranganath Weiner got to tour three Air Force bases, receive a missile briefing and view a missile launch Sept. 13-15.
The invitation was tendered as part of Weiner's appointment as a teacher liaison to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the U.S. Space Foundation, Called a "glory trip," the tour made relatively brief stops at the three military bases and included other teachers and community members.
Bases on the tour included Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, for a briefing on the nation's Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program; and Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, where Weiner and the other citizens viewed a Minuteman III launch.
