What do you do? ....
Deanna Kisel

Where do you work and what is your title?
       Owner/operator of Everybody Loves Dinosaurs.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I have a 2-part store. One part, I sell dinosaur toys, the other part, I sell fossils, minerals and rock gifts (including dinosaur dung, known as coprolite.) I am a paleontologist and do educational talks. Just recently, we started doing dinosaur birthday parties.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I worked for a geologist for 12 years and still go on digs in Pennsylvania for invertebrate fossils and in New Mexico for mastadon bones, gympsum and minerals (rocks). The dinosaur coprolite comes from Utah. I opened the store in March 2001.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I guess what I like best is that dinosaurs was once strictly a boys field; now I see just as many, if not more, little girls that love dinosaurs. It is not just for boys anymore.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
The one thing I would change is Old Colorado City is considered a tourist area and I would like for it to also be known as a great local place to shop as there are so many unique shops here that can’t be found elsewhere in town.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
        Salesmen and solicitors.
What makes working on the Westside special?
Being part of a historical part of town. I love the ambiance of Old Colorado City. Alot of Westside residents come into the store and they have all been very nice and seem proud of this area and this all combines together to make the Westside special.

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
