Coronado comes to Old Town Oct. 9
Annual Homecoming Parade set

Westsiders will get a dose of Coronado High School spirit Saturday morning, Oct. 9, when the 35th annual Homecoming Parade - with a theme of “Rock and Roll High School” - be-bops down Colorado Avenue.
Organized by CHS's Student Council, the parade will be a high point of Homecoming Week, which will begin Monday, Oct. 4 and conclude with the Homecoming Dance in the school's main gym from 8 to 11 p.m. Oct. 9, deejayed by Andrew “Frodo” Froehlich.
The parade will start at 9 a.m. from 28th Street and head east along the Avenue to Bancroft Park, where a pep rally will be held for that afternoon's 1 p.m. football game at Garry Berry Stadium against Regis High. The football team and cheerleading squad will be featured in the rally.
“We invite the whole Westside to come out for the parade,” said Coronado Student Body President Emily Hoover, who previously attended Midland Elementary and West Middle schools. “It's a great tradition - the biggest homecoming parade in the city.”
The parade will include entries from Coronado clubs and sports teams and other Westside District 11 schools. Participating schools will be Holmes Middle and Jackson, Trailblazer, Washington and Whittier elementaries. The Howbert Girl Scouts will also be on hand.
CHS clubs will be the Pep Band, cheerleaders, Future Educators of America (FEA) and the National German Honor Society.
Sports teams will be volleyball, gymnastics, girls golf, boys swimming and diving, girls softball, cross-country, boys soccer and football.
According to high school information, during the schooldays leading up to Oct. 9, there will be a different theme each day, as follows:
Monday, October 4 - Flashback Day (root beer floats at lunch)
Tuesday, October 5 - Sports Day (dunk tank)
Wednesday, October 6 - Western Day (jersey auction)
Thursday, October 7 - Rap/Rock Star Day (cougar idol)
Friday, October 8 - Red and Gold Day (Pep Rally and Powder Puff flag football game between the senior and junior girls).
In addition, The CHS Drama Department will perform “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” at 7:00 p.m. Oct. 6, 7 and 8 in the school auditorium.
